My mother, Mary Kelly (b.1918) was a welder at the Barrow-in-Furness shipyards during the war. She was born near Gorey, Wexford on the 9th May 1918 and moved to Grange over Sands as a Domestic Servant about 1939. She started working in the shipyard in July 1943 and worked in the Welding SY department. She married my father, Frank Lamb, in Dublin in 1950, even though they lived in Haworth, Yorkshire (where she moved after the war to work in the textile mills). They had two children, me (b.1951) and my brother Colin (b.1954). She died in 1983.
